The chemical composition of INCONEL alloy 725 is given in Table 1. High levels of nickel and chromium provide corrosion resistance in reducing and oxidizing environments. The substantial molybdenum content enhances resistance to reducing media and provides a high degree of resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Additionally, the combination of elements makes the alloy resistant to hydrogen embrittlement and stresscorrosion cracking. The properties of INCONEL alloy 725 are useful for a range of applications that require outstanding corrosion resistance along with high strength. The alloy is used for hangers, landing nipples, side pocket mandrels and polished bore eceptacles in sour gas service, where it resists the effects of hydrogen sulfide, chlorides and carbon dioxide. The alloy is also attractive for high strength fasteners in marine applications, where it resists corrosion, pitting and crevice attack in sea water.

Super alloys or high performance alloys are of three types that include iron-based, cobalt-based and nickel-based alloys. These alloys can be strengthened by precipitation hardening, solid-solution hardening and work hardening methods. INCOLOY alloys belong to the category of super austenitic stainless steels. These alloys have nickel-chromium-iron as the base metals, with additives such as molybdenum, copper, nitrogen and silicon. These alloys are known for their excellent strength at elevated temperatures and good corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive environments.
INCOLOY alloy 800 is an alloy of nickel, iron and chromium. The alloy is capable of remaining stable and maintaining its austenitic structure even after long time exposures to high temperatures. Other characteristics of the alloy are good strength, and high resistance to oxidizing, reducing and aqueous environments. The standard forms in which this alloy is available are round, flats, forging stock, tube, plate, sheet, wire and strip.

Incoloy 800, 800H, and 800HT are nickel-iron-chromium alloys having high resistance to carburization and oxidation in high-temperature exposure and with good strength. These nickel steel alloys are identical except for the higher level of carbon in alloy 800H, and the addition of up to 1.20 % aluminum and titanium in alloy 800HT.
Incoloy 800 was the first of these alloys and it was slightly modified into Incoloy 800H. The modification made was to control carbon (.05-.10%) and grain size to optimize stress rupture properties. Incoloy 800HT has more modifications to the combined aluminum and titanium levels (.85-1.20%) to ensure optimum high temperature properties.
The nickel alloy is dual certified (800H/HT) and combines the properties of both forms. Incoloy 800H/HT alloy was actually meant for high-temperature structural applications. These alloys are resistant to embrittlement from precipitation of sigma phase and chloride stress-corrosion cracking due to the nickel content. The corrosion resistance is quite high.
In the solution annealed condition, alloys 800H and 800HT have excellent creep and stress rupture properties. The dual certified 800H/HT alloy is commonly available also with Mega Mex.
Incoloy 800 is mainly used in applications with temperatures up to 1100° F, where alloys 800H and 800HT are normally used in temperatures above 1100° F where resistance to creep and rupture is required. The chemical balance allows the nickel steel alloy to exhibit excellent resistance to carburization, oxidation and nitriding atmospheres.
Incoloy 800HT will not become embrittled even after long periods of usage in the 1200-1600° F range where many stainless steels become brittle.
